Courtney was recruited by producer Keith Barnfather in early 1993 and was eager to participate within the production, although he later admitted to finding it a challenge due to his age (being sixty five when manufacturing started) in addition to variations in single camera filming in comparison with the extra traditional multi-digital camera setup previously used on Physician Who.
