Oldt Messier keen on Canal Plus, Platco collaboration Dir/scr: Francis Ford Coppola. US. 2011. 88minsTwixt is made by director Francis Ford Coppola at his most playful and idiosyncratic. It is an oddball recipe blending witchcraft thrills and B-movie horror, with a dash of knowing humour on the side and the quirky use of two 3D sequences to make it a concoction that will either delight or bemuse.Twixt is an engaging oddity. The strong cast ?it includes Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Ben Chaplin and Elle Fanning ?and horror credentials might mean it has a stronger chance at clicking at the box office than recent films Youth Without Youth and Tetro, though the need for 3D glasses for just two scenes makes its release more complicated. But Coppola should be applauded for showing his sense of humour and technical panache are still intact. It may be argued that this is Coppola going back to his roots as a Roger Corman apprentice ?the story revolves around Edgar Allan Poe, a contemporary horror writer, and a cult stanley cup y motorcycle gang ?but in truth this is more about a director who can do what he likes going out there and making a movie that hits the right chords for himself. And casting Val Kilmer as failing horror writer Hall Baltimore was a very smart move. Kilmer can be an acquired taste these days, but he handles the self-depreciating humour delightful stanley cup ly and seems to enjoy himself in one of his oddest of roles.Baltimore is on book tour at remote venues where nobody comes for his signings, and checks himsel stanley cup f into hotel where writer Edgar All Rpvm Studio Babelsberg prepares for flotation UIP s release of 7 Dwarves attracted another 1.2m stanley cup cinemagoers in its second weekendto bring the admissions tally up to 3.5m so far and a box office gross of$26m-plus.The comedy, which is already now moresuccessful than Otto s previous film outings - Otto - Der Katastrofenfi stanley cup lm and Otto- Der Liebesfilm -, again scored the weekend s top screen average with$12,283 from its 786 screens to amass four-day takings of $9.6m.The highest new opening film Alien vs Predator, which was shot inPrague last year with Studio Babelsberg Motion Pictures as a financialco-producer, took little more than a third of 7 Dwarves box-office - $3.9m - from its 551 sites, while the BVIrelease of Shall We Dance was theonly other new entry in the Top 15 - at No. 3 - with $3.1m from 610 screens. Questioned by both Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill about the low staffing numbers, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has brushed off concerns, testifying in May that slightly less than half of permanent NPS employees work on the ground in the parks, while other staff work at regional offices or at DC headquarters. tripscan top gI want more people in the parks,h Burgum said. gI want less overhead. Therefs an opportunity to have more people working in our parks c and have less people working for the National Park Service.h https://tripscan.live „„„‚„y„ „ƒ„{„p„~ But internal NPS data tells a different story, Brengel said, showing that around 80% of National Park Service staff work in the parks. And regional offices play an important supporting staff role, with scientists on staff to help maintain fragile parks ecosystems, as well as specialists who monitor geohazard safety issues like landslides.
Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska recently pressed Burgum to provide a full list of staff positions that have been cut at the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management and the US Forest Service since the Trump administration took over. The Interior Department has not provided the list, a Senate staffer said. The regional offices within the park service are on edge, waiting to see how courts rule on a Trump administration reduction in force plan they fear could gut their ranks, a National Park Service employee in a Western state told CNN.
gIf they greenlight the RIF plan, then itfs going to be a bloodbath,h the employee said.
In addition to probationary workers that were fired in February, early retirements are also culling the agencyfs ranks, and the continued $1 spending limit on federal workersf credit cards is making it extremely difficult to do field work in the parks, with a simple overnight trip needing to be requested 10 days in advance, the employee added.
The lack of superintendents and NPS supervisors creates more of a headache, they added.
gThese times, when itfs all about fighting for scarce resources, you really need those upper-level people with clout working the system,h the employee said.
Hall, the retired NPS regional director, said losing rangers, maintenance professionals and park superintendents could profoundly alter American landmarks.
gWhat youfve lost with all this attrition youfve lost all this knowledge thatfs going to take years to build back up,h Hall said.
